A Kosovo Police officer tragically lost his life this morning after being hit by a vehicle near the border crossing in Vërmica, Morina.
According to the 24-hour report of the Kosovo Police, the accident occurred at around 05:40, when the police officer was patrolling on foot near the border crossing. As he attempted to cross the road, he was hit by a vehicle moving in the direction of Prizren-Vërmicë.
The victim has been identified as RG, 59 years old, a police officer, who died at the scene as a result of the violent collision.
The acting prosecutor, the Prizren Regional Road Traffic Unit and the emergency team arrived at the scene, confirming the death of the 59-year-old.
By order of the prosecutor, the body was sent to the Institute of Forensic Medicine for an autopsy. Meanwhile, the driver of the vehicle, an Albanian citizen with the initials DD, was detained for 48 hours.
The Basic Prosecution Office in Prizren has launched investigations to fully clarify the circumstances of the accident.
