Albanian MP in Montenegro comes out in defense of Kosovo: Pristina's
Ilir Capuni

The Albanian Alliance MP in the Parliament of Montenegro, Ilir Capuni, has reacted to the recent debates on the ban on the entry into Kosovo of several Montenegrin officials, defending the right of Kosovo's institutions to make decisions in the interest of its security.

Through a post on social media, Capuni expressed that he does not believe that the Kosovo authorities intended to worsen relations with Montenegro.

" As a representative of the Albanian Alliance, I did not have the impression that anyone from the Republic of Kosovo wanted to disrupt relations in Montenegro. On the contrary, my understanding is that the competent Kosovo bodies have assessed that there are security reasons for preventive action in relation to specific persons ," Capuni writes.

He emphasizes that there may be discussions about whether the assessment of Kosovo's institutions was fair or not, but this remains a matter that belongs to the authorities of a sovereign state.

According to the Albanian MP, Kosovo has acted through its institutions and within the jurisdiction recognized by law.

" While we expect everyone to respect the decisions of the institutions of Montenegro, the right of other countries to make decisions in accordance with their own laws must also be respected ," he said.

Capuni's reaction comes after the Speaker of the Parliament of Montenegro, Andrija Mandić, stated that the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, was behind the decision to ban the Mayor of Nikšić, Marko Kovačević, and the Speaker of the Municipal Assembly of Berane, Vidi Ivanović, from entering Kosovo.

According to a statement from the Nova Srpska Demokratija (NSD) party, which Mandic leads, he claimed that even the deputies of Albanian parties in Montenegro have understood that "someone wants to disrupt relations between Serbian and Albanian politicians in Montenegro."

With his reaction, Ilir Capuni distances himself from this narrative, emphasizing that the decisions of Kosovo's institutions must be respected as decisions of a sovereign state and that they should not be interpreted as an attempt to damage relations between the two countries.
