Dashamir Shehi

Former MP Dashamir Shehi has stated that the Democratic Party should not present the election of several new figures in the leadership structures as a true renewal of the party, while emphasizing that the civic protest has demands that do not fully comply with Sali Berisha's positions.

Invited to the "Off the Record" show on A2 CNN, Shehi stated that, despite the approach of some young people and women to the leadership of the DP, decision-making continues to remain in Berisha's hands.

" They have elected some young people, some girls, women, they have done well for me. Not that they will do anything, Berisha is there and there are 100 empty seats. The hope is that being young, God willing, they will not have burdens on their backs and will give a boost to politics within the party. They will have the opportunity to tell the chairman: 'Stop, this should not be done like this'. But we should not create the false idea that politics changes just because some young people have been elected. Berisha himself is there , "said Shehi.

He also criticized the way appointments to the party leadership were made, emphasizing that political positions should be earned through contributions and not as decoration.

" He says we have two women for council presidents, but this is a position that is achieved through career and political contribution. It is good to have artists, architects and young people, but politically they are empty. Political substance is in the hands of those who have climbed the ladder with work and contribution. I call it positive that there are new faces, because they do not have burdens on their backs, but to sell this to me as a renewal of the DP, no ," said the former head of the LZHK.

The sheikh also touched on the civic protests, stating that the protesters' demands go beyond what the opposition articulates.

" Berisha said that the protesters are demanding the same things that we are demanding, a caretaker government and others. No. They are also demanding things that Berisha does not like. They are demanding that the Constitution that Berisha made with Rama in 2008 be changed and they are demanding that the Electoral Law be changed. He does not say these things. I consider it positive that he has understood that he should not oppose this protest, because otherwise he would also lose his popular base ," Shehi declared.
