DP National Council

The names that are not voted on by the DP National Council for the new Presidency...

The National Council of the Democratic Party of Albania will elect 20 new members of the Presidency of this party today, while the lists of candidates were made public by the Democratic Party leader, Sali Berisha. The latter said that those running for the Presidency are divided into 3 lists: that of women, men and young people.

If we compare the current Presidency, the members elected by the National Council, and the list presented by Sali Berisha, it is noticeable that some names are not included in the race. But this does not mean that they may not be co-opted members of the Presidency, due to other positions they may take in the DP.

However, focusing on the current list of the Presidency, the elected members, and the names competing, it is striking that MPs Belind Këlliçi, Enno Bozdo, Bardh Spahia and MPs Ina Zhupa and Jozefina Topalli have been excluded from the competition or voting by members of the National Council. All of these were part of the DP Presidency, elected in 2022, by the National Council of that time that emerged from the National Re-establishment Assembly, as it was called in December 2021.

Also missing from today's race are former MPs Sorina Koti, Aldo Bumçi and Florion Mima, who have long since almost withdrawn from active political life.

Meanwhile, some of the names of the current Presidency have been re-nominated, including Grigels Muçollari, Elena Qirici, Edit Harxhi, Floriana Garo, Mimoza Hajdarmataj, Keltis Kruja, Gent Strazimiri, Luan Baçi.

Meanwhile, Edi Paloka is up for vote, who in the Presidency elected in 2022 was a co-opted member due to his position as Chairman of the National Council of the Democratic Party. As a novelty, among the well-known names that are up for vote by the National Council are Ilir Alimehmeti, deputies Arjan Ndoja, Gjin Gjoni and Fidel Kreka, member of the Municipal Council, Dorian Teliti, or Alfred Lela. Also competing for a place in the Presidency, as part of the youth group, are Glauk Olldashi, son of the late former deputy Sokol Olldashi, or Tedi Kopliku, Nikola Kedhi or former deputy Andia Ulliri.

A significant part of the members of the Presidency are understood due to their positions in the party or parliamentary group. Thus, the Vice-Presidents, the Secretary General, the Secretariat, the Head of the Parliamentary Group, the leaders of the FRPD and LDG, as well as the heads of the Parliamentary Committees, which belong to the DP, are part of the Presidency, as co-opted, that is, without being subject to a vote by the members of the National Council. /Pamphlet/
