Rama accused bloggers and influencers of inciting the protests, while Berisha urged Democrats to support the movement on every social platform.
The political clash between the majority and the opposition is increasingly taking place on social media, with each side considering digital platforms a crucial tool for influencing public opinion.
For days, Prime Minister Edi Rama has publicly stated that the recent protests have been fueled by the way social media algorithms work, accusing bloggers and influencers of having influenced the spread of calls for mobilization. In his public appearances, the head of government has spoken about the influence that, according to him, digital platforms have in creating the climate of protest.
Political sources indicate that in meetings held with Socialist MPs, Rama has asked them to be more active on social networks and engage in public communication to counter the narratives that, according to the majority, are spreading online.
On the other hand, the leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has responded to this battle by calling on opposition structures to engage maximally in supporting the protests, even in the digital space.
During the meeting of the DP National Council, Berisha asked the Democrats that every person with an account on social networks contribute to promoting the protests.
" Every person should be at their disposal. Every person who has a social network should post, click, to help them. Rama has taken companies and paid staggering fees to change the algorithm. I also salute those bloggers and influencers, because with their skill they became an inspiration for the digital generation of Albania. Therefore, the most primary task, in all my conviction, is for us as citizens to do everything so that the youth movement triumphs ," declared Berisha.
The statements of the two leaders show that the political battle is not only taking place on the ground or in political institutions, but also on social networks, which are increasingly considered an influential factor in civic mobilization and shaping public opinion.
While Prime Minister Rama has raised concerns about the impact of algorithms and the role of influencers in organizing protests, the opposition sees the digital space as an opportunity to expand support for the protest movement, calling on its supporters to increase their online presence and activity.
