Over 1,000 residents in the Mokra area of Pogradec continue to face a lack of drinking water for several days. The problem has affected eight villages in the Proptiste Administrative Unit, creating great difficulties for residents, especially in the conditions of high temperatures in July.
The villages of Golik and Selcë e Poshtme are among the areas where the water supply has been interrupted for several days, while over the last 24 hours the situation has spread to six other villages in this administrative unit.
Residents say that the lack of water has created problems in their daily lives and that they have constantly requested the intervention of local institutions to resolve the situation.
According to them, the administrator of the Proptisht Administrative Unit contacted the Pogradec Water Company, where it was announced that the interruption was due to a defect in the supply line.
However, there is still no official announcement clarifying the nature of the defect and whether it is a damage to the main water supply pipeline.
Meanwhile, some residents have raised suspicions that the problem may be related to the diversion of the water source from a hydroelectric power plant in the Velçan area to supply a reservoir, which according to them may have affected the amount of water reaching the homes.
The water supply system that supplies the areas of Proptisht and Velçan was newly built about a year ago, but residents say that supply problems have returned despite the investment.
Currently, residents are awaiting intervention to repair the defect and restore normal drinking water supply.
