After 31 days of protests characterized by calls for the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama, today's protest has marked a strong shift in rhetoric.
For the first time, from the podium erected in front of the Prime Minister's Office, a warning about the "collapse" of the Prime Minister has been openly articulated, accompanied by a scenography that recalls one of the strongest moments in Albanian political history, the toppling of the bust of Enver Hoxha in February 1991.
A protester has brought out a large figure of Edi Rama, mounted as a bust of the former communist dictator, while declaring to citizens that the time of demands for resignation is giving way to another phase of the protest.
" We have brought Rama to do the final tests before we overthrow him. We are telling him to resign, but he is not listening to us. So we start preparing to overthrow him. Generation Z, all together: Either surrender, or be overthrown !", he declared.
The statement was accompanied by cheers from some of the protesters, while a figure of Rama resembling the bust of Enver Hoxha was erected in front of the Prime Minister's Office building.
The protest, which has entered its 32nd day, has so far been mainly carried out with calls for the resignation of the prime minister and a change in the political class. Today's message constitutes an escalation of the language used by some of the protesters, who warned that they will not give up their actions until Edi Rama leaves power.
Protesruesit shqiptar nuk jane gjenerata Z. Kjo eshte shpikje e Salehve dhe Ramutve. Ju jeni ne protest per krimet 36 vjeçar qe kryen ndaj shqiptarve pushtetarët nga ripjellja socialist dhe demokratike, e kto bashk ripjellje komuniste. Ju jeni shqiptar, jo gjerenat Z. E ne sportist ka nga te gjithe, qe nga moshat me rinore e deri te pleqet e përvuajtur. Mos e dijeni punen.
Isha duke pare ndeshjen : Angli- Kongo, kur kaluan, mbas Statujes se SKENDERBEUT, jo me shume se 300 protestues, nga ku shumica ishin, 60-70 vjecar dhe rreth 50-60 persona, ishin shume te rinj, rreth 14-16, vjec. Te kercenojne qe po bejn revolucion 300 veta ?????, pa nje platforme, d.m.th, qe ky vend ka mbaruar. Me shume sens ka te shkoni te protestoni perpara SPAK, te jap vendimet, per SALI TRIMIN, sepse, PO KALOJNE SHUME VITE NGA :GERDECI, 21 JANARI, PARTIZANI. Nuk po kuptoj insistimin e nje turme, qe po kercenon ti vere flaken Shqiperise, qe ne realitet nuk jane me shume se 33 persona, me komandant KOLEN. Po KOLA,çfare perfaqeson, si perfaqesues, aresim, moshe ?
