Political scientist Ermal Hasimja has expressed criticism of the organization of Kanye West's concert in Albania, arguing that such an activity does not match the image that the country has built over the years in the international arena.
Hasimja said that the American artist has been the subject of controversy for his previous statements and that this is the reason why many European countries have not accepted him to hold concerts.
"This is a singer who in the vast majority of European countries has not been allowed to give concerts because of his declared anti-Semitic, Nazi, etc. preferences. And this does not honor Albania," he said when invited to the show "ÇdoKënd".
According to him, although organizing the concert may attract international attention, this is not necessarily a positive form of promotion for the country.
"It's true that this attracts attention... But do we need this kind of attention? Should Albania be portrayed as a place where someone who has such Nazi, anti-Semitic attitudes gives a concert?", added the political scientist.
Hasimja emphasized that such a development, according to him, contradicts the image that Albania has cultivated as a tolerant and welcoming country.
"And this completely contradicts what we have tried to build as an image, as a country that helped Jews during World War II, which is a welcoming country, which is a non-racist country, which is a country with religious, ethnic tolerance, etc.," he said.
The political scientist also questioned the use of funds for organizing the concert, arguing that they could have been invested in more necessary sectors.
"This is the big problem. It's like the white sneakers thing: you choose at one point to attract attention, but you choose the wrong way to attract attention. That 4 million would do us a lot more work in hospitals, I suppose, or with a concert in which, to tell the truth, I don't see any value," said Hasimja.
