
An Albanian citizen, declared internationally wanted by Italian authorities, has been arrested in recent days in Manchester, United Kingdom, after several months on the run.
According to the announcement of the Guarda di Financa Bergamo, the arrested person is considered one of the leaders of an Italian-Albanian criminal organization that operated in several regions of Italy, including Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna, Tuscany, Lazio and Calabria.
The criminal group is accused of drug trafficking, theft and robbery in villas, exploitation of prostitution, extortion, laundering and concealment of assets of criminal origin, fraudulent bankruptcy and illegal possession of weapons.
Italian authorities had carried out a large-scale operation in May 2025, during which 12 people were arrested. However, the much-wanted Albanian managed to escape arrest, prompting the Bergamo Prosecutor's Office to issue a 'European Arrest Warrant' against him.
After investigations and international cooperation between Italian and British authorities, it was discovered that he was hiding in Manchester. British police special teams raided the apartment where he was hiding and handcuffed him.
He is currently in custody in the United Kingdom and is expected to be extradited to Italy.
The investigation that led to his arrest enabled the seizure of assets worth around 1.2 million euros, 500 thousand euros in cash hidden in vehicles, around 25 kilograms of cocaine and hashish, as well as a luxury Mercedes Limousine VIP vehicle worth around 200 thousand euros, used according to investigators for the organization's illegal activities.
According to (confidential) sources, the Albanian arrested in Manchester was born in 1988 with the initials PY.
The May 2025 operation that placed him under arrest and declared him wanted by Europol was codenamed "Money road".
