Two Albanians have been sentenced to prison in the United Kingdom after being found guilty of involvement in the distribution of cocaine and possession of forged documents.
Zenel Marku, 34, and Eldjan Mandri, 24, received their sentences at Chester Crown Court after investigations revealed their drug dealing activities.
During the trial, it was revealed that Mark will also face the consequences of escaping from an open prison in 2021, shortly after being transferred there while serving a previous sentence for serious drug-related offenses committed in 2018. The court also found that both defendants had entered British territory illegally.
According to the prosecution, a Cheshire police officer had observed a suspected drug exchange between Eldjan Mandri and another unidentified person. While Mandri fled the area, the other person was detained by police and gave investigators descriptions of the two Albanians, as well as messages he had received from them.
The following night, security camera operators alerted police to another suspected drug transaction near a canal. Officers again identified Mandri, who threw the drugs into the water as soon as he noticed the police presence. However, authorities were able to seize a small amount of drugs. According to the investigation, during the arrest, his phone was constantly receiving calls from people looking to buy drugs.
During a search of the apartment where they were staying, police found around £2,000 in cash, as well as forged documents belonging to the two defendants.
Zenel Marku's defense argued that he had acted under pressure from criminal groups to repay debts, while Eldjan Mandrin was said to have arrived in Britain in search of a better life, but then became involved in drug distribution in exchange for shelter and a low salary.
At the end of the trial, the Court sentenced Zenel Marku to six years and six months in prison for all criminal offenses. This sentence will begin after he has completed the remaining six years of his previous sentence handed down in 2018.
Meanwhile, Eldjan Mandri was sentenced to 26 months in prison, including an additional three months for possession of forged documents. After serving his sentence, he will be deported from the United Kingdom.
