Jetmir Pepa, also known as Mir Pepa or "Kazanova", one of the most wanted persons in Albania, has been arrested in Dubai.
The news was announced by sources close to the investigation, who confirmed to 'Pamphlet' that his arrest was made in the United Arab Emirates and that extradition procedures have begun, expecting him to be extradited to Albania in the coming days.
Meanwhile, there are still no official details on how the arrest occurred or in which area of Dubai he was captured, while sources have not provided more information regarding this part of the operation.
Jetmir Pepa's arrest comes just a few days after the extradition of 6 other citizens from Dubai, including Aleks Pepaj, his brother, and Ilir Lazri, who are directly linked to the same criminal group.
Legal proceedings for the extradition of Jetmir Pepa began immediately after his arrest. He is expected to be extradited to Albania in the coming days to face the serious charges against him.
Pepa is one of the key figures in the investigations into international cocaine trafficking and money laundering. According to the investigative file, the criminal group he led is suspected of having trafficked around 7.5 tons of cocaine from Latin America to European Union countries and laundered large sums of money through public tenders and various businesses.
As part of this operation, assets worth around 12 million euros were seized and several members of the group were arrested, including his brother, Aleks Pepaj.
