A bloody incident in southern Lebanon has reignited tensions between Israel and Hezbollah, raising questions about the implementation of a recently reached ceasefire.
Lebanon's Health Ministry reported that two people were killed in an attack in the Nabatieh area on Tuesday. Following the incident, Hezbollah accused Israel of violating the ceasefire agreement, claiming that the victims were part of a group of civilians who were cleaning the streets and pulling bodies from the rubble.
"The Islamic Resistance warns that what the enemy has committed constitutes a clear violation of the ceasefire," Hezbollah stated in its official response.
On the other hand, the Israeli army rejected the accusations, stating that the target of the operation were armed individuals who, according to it, posed an immediate threat to Israeli troops deployed in the security zone in southern Lebanon.
In a statement, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stressed that they will continue to take action against any threat that threatens the security of Israeli soldiers and citizens.
The incident comes at a delicate moment for the region, as a ceasefire agreement aims to end months of tensions and clashes between Israel and Hezbollah. However, the latest incidents show that the situation on the ground remains fragile and the risk of escalation has not yet been averted.
