Shkruar nga PamfletiEl Salvadoran referee Ivan Barton has been appointed by FIFA to officiate the World Cup semifinal between France and Spain, which will be played on Tuesday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
This will be Barton's fourth match at this World Cup, following the challenges Turkey - Paraguay, Japan - Sweden in the group stage and Switzerland - Colombia in the 1/8-at. The 35-year-old, who also refereed three matches at the Qatar 2022 World Cup, is the Central American referee with the most matches in World Cup history.
During his career, he has refereed over 300 matches, awarding more than 1,400 yellow cards and 86 red cards.
Barton also made history as the first referee to apply the so-called “Vinicius Law”, sending off Paraguayan Miguel Almiron in the Turkey-Paraguay match for covering his mouth while communicating with an opponent. The rule, unanimously approved by FIFA in April 2026, provides for a red card for any player who covers his mouth while addressing an opponent.
