The Sadushi family in the village of Orizaj, Berat, opened the doors of the morgue this Monday to say their final goodbyes to their only son, 15-year-old Fatjon Sadushi, who tragically lost his life in the waters of the Osum River.
Amidst pain and tears, family, relatives, friends, and schoolmates attended the funeral ceremony to escort the minor to his final resting place.
Meanwhile, although forensic expertise has confirmed that the cause of death was drowning, residents of the area are blaming local authorities for the conditions created in the river.
According to them, recently built dams to prevent flooding have created deep pits filled with mud, which, according to their claims, have made it impossible for the 15-year-old to surface.
"The drowning of the minor was caused by river dams that were recently installed to prevent flooding. These dams have created deep holes that have filled with mud and have not allowed him to get out of the river ," residents of the village of Orizaj told "News 24".
The incident occurred while Fatjon Sadushi was working in the field with his father. To cool off from the high temperatures, he entered the waters of the Osum River, but a few moments later he began to drown. As soon as he realized what was happening, his father jumped into the river to save him, but unfortunately he was unable to pull him out alive.
Authorities are continuing verifications to fully clarify the circumstances of this tragic event.
