A sharp message from Beirut: End the Israeli occupation or no deal!
President of Lebanon, Joseph Aoun

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has reaffirmed Beirut's position on the end of the Israeli military presence in the south of the country. He stressed that the Lebanese authorities will not accept any solution that does not guarantee the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces and the removal of any foreign interference.

During a meeting with the Commander-in-Chief of the Lebanese Armed Forces, Rodolphe Haykal, Aoun stated that national sovereignty remains the top priority of the Lebanese state.

"We will accept nothing less than the end of the Israeli occupation of southern Lebanon and the departure of all foreign forces ," the president said.

Aoun stressed that the protection of citizens should be guaranteed only by state institutions, adding that the future of the country should rely on the Lebanese state and not on external actors.

The Lebanese president also praised the path of dialogue and negotiations, arguing that recent developments have proven that diplomacy remains the most effective alternative for resolving tensions with Israel.

According to him, a new round of negotiations has already begun in Washington and is expected to continue in the coming days. Aoun expressed hope that these talks will be decisive in achieving Lebanon's objectives and strengthening stability in the region.

"Our only choice is our national sovereignty and our only bet is the Lebanese state, which, alone and thanks to no one else, protects all its citizens.  Moreover, 'the developments of recent days have shown the validity of our decision to choose negotiations' with Israel.

"We have launched today and will continue over the next two days a new round of negotiations (with Israel, in Washington) which we hope will be decisive on the path towards achieving what we want for our homeland and our people," said the Lebanese president.

The president's statements come at a delicate moment, as the recently reached ceasefire between the parties remains fragile and tensions on the southern border continue to be carefully monitored by the international community.
