Two years after the murder of Egli Proga, the prosecution closes the investigation and sends the case to trial against 5 people. Upon closing the investigation, the prosecution has communicated the charge of intentional murder, committed in collaboration, to Denis Meçe and Leonidha Guçe. Meanwhile, Arjan Manellari, Voltan Shkulaku and Andi Shkulaku are accused of failing to report the crime, committed in collaboration, as well as of committing actions that impede the disclosure of the truth.
For Denis Meçe and Leonidha Guçe, the Korça Court has imposed the security measure "house arrest", while the other three defendants are being investigated under the security measure "compulsory appearance".
According to the investigation file, the forensic examination confirmed that 42-year-old Egli Proga lost his life as a result of a cerebral hemorrhage in the brain membrane, caused by a punch. In addition to the forensic examination, the prosecution has also based the accusation on the testimonies of the persons questioned during the investigation, as well as on the examination of security camera footage from businesses located near the scene of the incident.
The young man was raped to death on August 10, 2024 in neighborhood no. 1 of the city of Pogradec. According to the investigative body, Egli Proga was violently beaten by Denis Meçe and citizen Leonidha Guçe, who was present in the same bar at the time the crime occurred.
It is learned that the victim was initially raped inside the bar by citizen Leonidha Guçe and then he was hit when he left the premises by citizen Denis Meçe. Although he was transported to the hospital, Proga was unable to survive the injuries and lost his life on the evening of August 10.
Initially, he was reported to have died after falling on the road while drunk in Pogradec. But it turned out that this plot was a hoax to hide the serious incident, as the 42-year-old was raped to death and later died in the Pogradec hospital.
The murder of Egli Proga caused strong public reactions, as well as clashes between the Police and the Court regarding the handling of the case. The victim's relatives requested that the investigations not be limited only to the persons accused of the incident, but also include local Police structures regarding the way the case was managed./ Pamphlet
