Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan appeared optimistic about the future of defense cooperation with the United States. In an assessment after the end of the NATO Summit in Ankara, he paid special attention to the meeting with US President Donald Trump, expressing his belief that there will be positive developments for the KAAN and F-35 programs.
Through a post on social media, Erdogan called the 36th NATO Summit a success, emphasizing that it highlighted Turkey's central role within the Alliance.
The Turkish president said that talks with Trump are expected to yield results that meet Ankara's expectations in the field of the defense industry.
" At a time when the global security architecture is being reshaped by competition between great powers, hybrid threats, regional crises and new technologies, this summit once again demonstrated our country's central role in the international security architecture, its diplomatic prowess and responsibility as an ally ," Erdogan wrote.
He added that the "NATO 3.0" vision aims to strengthen Europe's defense capabilities and adapt the Alliance to the new reality, emphasizing that Turkey, thanks to its military capabilities, strategic position, diplomatic experience and defense industry, is at the center of this transformation.
Erdogan also announced that the Security and Defense Partnership Agreement with the United Kingdom was signed within the framework of the summit, while negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement with Canada were launched.
" I particularly believe that the constructive and productive talks we held with my esteemed friend, US President Mr. Trump, who paid an official visit to our country on the occasion of the summit, will lead to concrete results that will meet our country's expectations in the field of defense industry, especially for our national KAAN fighter jet and the F-35 program ," Erdogan stated.
