Journalist Artan Hoxha has harshly criticized the government's decision to finance thousands of tickets for Kanye West's concert in Tirana, calling it an irresponsible act at a time when the country is facing numerous problems.
Invited to the show 'Çim Peka LIVE', Hoxha said that at the height of the protests against the government, the decision to sign the financing of 40,000 tickets, worth around 4 million euros, is a choice that has caused a strong public reaction.
According to the journalist, the government is justifying the spending of public money with the argument of international image, while according to him it is a private activity. Hoxha also brought other examples where, according to him, public money is used to cover up organizational failures.
Speaking about the political climate in the country, Hoxha said that the dissatisfaction created by the government's decisions has caused any person or institution perceived as a supporter of the prime minister to be under public pressure.
Artan Hoxha: At the height of the protest, you have to sign a decision like this that Rama made, to finance 40 thousand tickets, because that's it, exactly 40 thousand tickets. So, to raise 4 million euros. When the fire brigade here screams, saying we are in trouble, it became a mess, and you say, Albania is ashamed here!
Albania is ashamed when the firefighter goes through the bushes with his hands to put out the fire. That's where Albania is ashamed. Albania is not ashamed whether he gives a concert or not. Albania loses there, do you understand? Albania loses there!
He's only talking about image. And what does he do? At this moment, he himself signs it, so even though he's in this situation, even though he's got a noose around his neck, he still signs it there himself. 'I signed it at the last minute,' he says, 'to save Albania's image.' What image are you saving, what are you doing with a private concert?!
I'm telling you in vain, he came up with Malindi, and it will turn out that he calculated that 10 thousand people would come to Skrapar, 10 thousand did not come, 3 thousand did. The municipality will sponsor the other 7 thousand tickets! Even if you give it to him, because Dulja will leave them in Albania, he will have to deal with the mekam in Malind, he will leave them there.
He's spending that money, he's taking it nowhere. He's creating a very dangerous precedent. That's why people are protesting, at the height of the protest he himself puts this thing on top and then says why people are reacting.
People, anything that is identified as a supporter of Edi Rama at this moment, as someone who has benefited from Edi Rama, has been targeted, everyone from there, that is.
The land where the concert is taking place, because I know the owners of the land. Do you know what they did to those owners? They bought it for a scandalous price and said that an Israeli company would build here.
That's why it was taken away from them. And in the meantime, suddenly it was flattened and they said we're going to build a stadium. So here too, just like in all other places in Albania, the landowners have had their land stolen. And now they say to the landowner: 'Come on, buy a ticket and see a concert.'
