France "liquidates" Morocco and goes to the semifinals for the third time in a row. Mbappe "corrects" the mistake of the first half
France is the first team to secure a place in the World Cup semi-finals after defeating Morocco 2-0 in the quarter-finals at Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts.
The French had a chance to take the lead in the 25th minute when Kylian Mbappe was brought down in the area by Nusair Mazraui. The referee awarded a penalty, a decision confirmed by VAR. However, the French striker failed to capitalize on the opportunity, as his shot was easily saved by goalkeeper Bono.
At the end of the first half, Lukas Dinje tried a spectacular shot from distance, but the ball stopped on the crossbar, causing the first 45 minutes to end in a goalless draw.
France opened the scoring in the 60th minute. After an assist from Dezajër Due, Kylian Mbappe scored with a precise shot from inside the area, giving his team the lead.
Just six minutes later, Osmane Dembele doubled the lead with a beautiful shot from outside the area, virtually sealing the French's qualification.
Morocco had a good chance to reopen the game in the 85th minute, but Ounahi's shot was stopped by a crucial save from goalkeeper Mike Menjo.
With this 2-0 victory, France secures its third consecutive appearance in the World Cup semifinals. In the semifinals, the "Roosters" will face the winner of the Spain-Belgium match.
