The lost battle with the Albanian language!

The lost battle with the Albanian language!
Lutfi Dervishi

The cynical attempts in Skopje to return Albanian to a "language of percentages", the decisions of the Constitutional Court that affect acquired rights, the removal of the Albanian language from street signs, the denial of the right of Albanian students to take exams in Albanian are signs of the desperation of a policy that cannot accept equality.

The Albanian language is a story of survival.

It has withstood times, invasions, prohibitions, and empires.

It survived the Roman Empire for about five centuries.

It survived the Byzantine Empire for nearly a millennium.

It survived the Bulgarian Empire and Slavic assimilation in the Middle Ages.

It survived the Serbian Empire of Stefan Dushan.

It survived the Ottoman Empire for almost five centuries.

It survived censorship, bans, and the fierce war against Albanian schools.

It survived attempts to write it in Greek, Arabic, and Cyrillic alphabets, or in fragmented Latin variants, until Albanians unified it at the Congress of Manastir in 1908.

The Arbëresh preserved it for five centuries away from their homeland.

The Albanians of Kosovo defended it during times of repression and apartheid.

Albanians in North Macedonia rose up in protests for the right to learn, write, and study in their native language.

Therefore, the cynical efforts in Skopje to return Albanian to a "language of percentages", the decisions of the Constitutional Court that affect acquired rights, the removal of the Albanian language from street signs, the denial of the right of Albanian students to take exams in Albanian are signs of the desperation of a policy that cannot accept equality.

It is a great paradox that Skopje is declaring war on the language of the state-forming people, while it itself faces Bulgaria, which denies the existence of the Macedonian language. If North Macedonia truly aims for integration into the European Union, it should look towards the model of countries like Belgium (with three official languages) or Switzerland (with four), where multilingualism is a value and a pillar of stability, not a threat.

History has already given the answer: anyone who has entered into battle with the Albanian language has lost. Even the most powerful empires in the world.

Salehu ishte qen antishqiptar, dhe i tille eshye edhe sot. Por, perse e ndan nga Tamuti. Tash 15 vite sundon Ramuti, me Salehun ne opozite. Perse Ramuti nuk e arreston por vazhdimisht bene marrëveshje me Salehun? E fundit marrëveshje Salehu Ramuti ndodhi para ca ditësh, synojnë ta ndryshojnë kushtetutën per te legjitimuar tradhtitë e tyre, duke i bere favore greqirve, sllavomongolve, arabo-sheikve... Tamuti e Salehu jane nje. Mos i ndaj!
