A dramatic moment shook the football world today. Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen collapsed in the 65th minute of a friendly match between Denmark and Ukraine at the Nature Energy Park stadium in Odense. The scene immediately brought back horrific memories of the 2021 incident. Eriksen, who was not in possession of the ball, suddenly placed both hands on his sternum before falling near the penalty area.

Players from both teams, medical staff and Norwegian referee Sigurd Kringstad reacted immediately. The match was stopped and then completely abandoned, with Denmark leading 2-1. The Danish Football Association (DBU) and the national team doctor, Morten Boesen, gave encouraging news a few hours later.
Eriksen is conscious, walked himself to the ambulance and was transported to the hospital for further checks.
"Christian is doing well under the current circumstances. He quickly regained consciousness and his defibrillator worked as expected ," the official statement said.
This incident automatically brought back to mind the tragic event of Euro 2020. On June 12, 2021, in Denmark's opening match against Finland in Copenhagen, Eriksen suffered a severe heart attack. He was brought back to life thanks to the rapid intervention of the medical staff. After that, he was implanted with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD), a device that monitors the heart rhythm and automatically intervenes if necessary. After that incident, Eriksen made an extraordinary comeback: he played for Brentford, Manchester United (where he won the FA Cup and EFL Cup), and currently defends the colors of VfL Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga. He has been an important part of the Danish national team at Euro 2024.
