The claim of an EU warning to Edi Rama over the Balluku issue turns out to be untrue, official agendas show that Albania was not on the agenda at all...
For several days now, a “news” has been circulating in the Tirana media that the European Union ministers, through COELA, have discussed Albania and have sent a warning signal to Edi Rama regarding the Balluku issue. Official documents of the EU Council refute this claim, showing that Albania was not on the agenda of the meetings of January 30, February 4 or 6. Diplomatic sources confirm that, although there is concern about the harsh language of the majority towards justice, the EU and the US have chosen to support the independence of SPAK and the Constitutional Court, without getting involved in concrete lawsuits. The “news” about COELA turns out to be a political spin instigated by opposition circles to exert pressure on the Constitutional Court, not an official position of the European Union.
For over three days now, "news" has appeared in the Tirana media about a meeting of EU ministers regarding Albania, as a warning to Edi Rama regarding the Balluku issue.
The truth is that all of this is news spun by opposition political circles, spread in their media, about a so-called decision by EU ministers on the Balluku case.
COELA, that is, the EU Foreign, Interior or Justice Ministers, have not discussed Albania in any meeting. It is enough to see the agenda of the official EU portal:
https://data.consilium.europa.eu/doc/document/CM-1517-2026-INIT/en/pdf
From this agenda, it is known that Albania was not on the agenda of the meetings of January 30, February 4, or February 6.
There may be signals from certain circles within the EU that do not see Edi Rama's clash with justice well, and this is also known in diplomatic circles. In fact, a well-known ambassador of a very powerful EU country, in an informal discussion, raised this concern, but this was unrelated to the issue of the Constitutional Court's decision.
Even diplomatic circles are aware and have openly expressed that both the SP and the DP are exerting pressure on the Constitutional Court for the suspension decision.
The EU, but also the US, have not put their pressure on the Balluku case as a lawsuit, but have simply declared that they will support both SPAK and the judges of the Constitutional Court. Meanwhile, they have considered Edi Rama's lawsuit to overturn the GJKKO decision as an internal matter of Albania.
This means that the right of a court to suspend a minister is not a subject of discussion in the EU. On the other hand, ambassadors have not welcomed the language used by Edi Rama, especially the attacks on judges.
These attacks, according to European diplomats, are not directly related to the Balluku case, but to the AKSHI case, as it is assessed that Rama does not want to allow investigators to approach his Secretary General or his aides.
There is even material from a meeting of ambassadors that illustrates this concern, which was previously published by Pamfleti.
But this "scam" about COELA is just a political spin, instigated by the number two of the DP, to exert pressure on the Constitutional Court and nothing more.
The EU COELA only discussed Ukraine and Moldova at its meetings on February 6 and 4, due to important developments there. While the meeting on January 30 discussed Ukraine, Moldova and Montenegro, but not Albania.
It is no mystery at all that the EU, especially Germany as the largest financier of the ONM operation, but also other states, are demanding a non-offensive approach by the majority towards justice and independent institutions. They have said this openly.
In this specific case, they have not intervened directly, because they want to support the independence of the institutions. It is also true that EU diplomats have met members of the Constitutional Court, but only to tell them that they support their independence.
The news recently spread by Gazment Bardhi, who clearly has a political grudge against Belinda Balluku, who defeated him badly in Fier, has no confirmation from EU institutions or the chancelleries of member states. It is simply a spin to exert pressure on the Constitutional Court.
However, there is a truth in the double game of opposition exponents with the government: they coordinate the political battle according to the interests of clans and lobbies, not on the basis of real opposition arguments or causes./ Pamphlet
Regjimi i ri me protagonist Sali Berishën me grup negociator do rithemelonin shtetin e ri demokratik shqiptar.
