According to French media reports, authorities have found a damaged crown near the Louvre, which is said to have belonged to Empress Eugenie. The crown was found broken.
Born in Granada, Spain, in 1826, Empress Eugenie married Napoleon III, who ruled France as president from 1848 to 1852 and emperor from 1852 to 1870, when he was overthrown.
Napoleon III spent the last three years of his life in exile in England, with Empress Eugenie and his only son, after being captured and dethroned during the Franco-Prussian War.
When his son - also Napoleon - died in 1879, Empress Eugenie built a monastery and an imperial mausoleum at Farnborough.
Empress Eugenie was buried in the imperial crypt at St. Michael's Abbey after she died in 1920.
