The photo of 40-year-old Aleksandër Koçeku, who was killed yesterday evening in Shkodër, has been published.
The murder of Koçek in the Dukagjini area is being investigated by the police, while the main lead is related to an old family conflict dating back to 2017.
According to investigative sources, it is suspected that the assassination may have been carried out in revenge, following the murder of Angjelin Shkambi, an event for which the victim's brother, Artan Koçeku, was convicted.
The 40-year-old was executed by automatic gunfire yesterday evening in the village of Lin, along the Kir-Prekal axis. His body was found inside the vehicle after a local resident saw the car that had gone out of control and notified the police.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the perpetrators are suspected of having ambushed the victim and were aware of his movements. They chose the moment when Koçek was passing through this road segment to carry out the assassination and then left.
Because the incident occurred in a deep mountainous area, where security cameras are lacking, the investigation team is relying on analyzing the victim's phone records and recent communications to identify the perpetrators.
Investigators have returned to the crime scene and are expected to question Aleksandër Koçek's family members to shed more light on the 2017 conflict.
According to the investigation file, in that incident, Artan Koçeku shot and killed Angjelin Shkambi after he had invited her to a meeting. The conflict was related to a debt of 40 thousand euros, but also to personal disagreements between the two families.
As part of the investigation, the police are also verifying family members and close people of Angjelin Shkambi, some of whom live outside Albania, to see if the assassination may have been organized as an act of revenge.
Investigative sources indicate that Aleksandër Koçeku was a well-known name to the police. He had previously been investigated for other criminal incidents, including suspicions of attacks on police officers with firearms and explosives.
Also, according to investigations, the 40-year-old is suspected of being involved in the cultivation of narcotic plants in the Dukagjin area.
The police continue investigations to identify the perpetrators and fully unravel the assassination.
