Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that Israel will retaliate harshly after Hamas' attack on its forces.
His office announced that Netanyahu met with his defense minister and the heads of security forces and instructed them to "act forcefully against terrorist targets in the Gaza Strip."
The meeting came after Israel carried out strikes using aircraft and artillery against multiple targets in Gaza, saying it did so in response to terrorists after they fired an anti-tank rocket and gunfire at IDF troops in the Rafah area of southern Gaza.
Hamas says it is unaware of the attacks. However, Hamas' armed wing said it is committed to the ceasefire agreement in all areas of Gaza. It stated that it was not aware of any attack or strike taking place in Rafah.
The group said the area is under Israeli control and communication with all groups there has been cut off since March.
"Therefore, we have no connection to any events taking place in those areas and cannot communicate with any of our fighters there, if any of them are still alive ," Hamas said.
