Minutes of terror at the Louvre, how the robbery of Napoleon's jewels was

Panic gripped the Louvre Museum today when two masked attackers forced their way into a room with valuable exhibits and managed to steal historical relics. A Greek tour guide spoke to Newsbomb and described the chaos and terror experienced by museum visitors when the two masked men ran into the room.

"It all happened this morning (Sunday, October 19) at 9:15 a.m. There was work being carried out on the outside of the museum, where the Seine River is located. The perpetrators 'took advantage' of this and managed to force their way into the museum. Carrying small electric saws, they cut through visitors and reached their 'target'," said Sofia Malathriti.

She added that "the voices and screams of the visitors did not discourage the perpetrators. There were two of them, while the third, according to what we heard, was outside."

The two hooded men broke display cases and stole valuable pieces from the jewelry collection of Napoleon and Empress Eugenie.

To be precise, they stole a necklace, a brooch and a tiara."

However, she stressed that "fortunately, the famous Regent diamond, the largest diamond in the collection weighing over 140 carats, was not stolen. It was in an adjacent display case, which they were unable to break."

Immediately afterwards, she explained that "after taking what they took, they fled following the same route. From there they disappeared and from what we have learned, the authorities have not yet found them."

The guards took the visitors outside and gathered them near the "Pyramid", trying to calm them down, as the shock they had suffered was terrible.

At the same time, information suggests that the area's surveillance system was deactivated. If this is indeed verified by the authorities' investigation and there is no footage from security cameras, then it is likely that the actions of the hooded robbers were well-organized.

Culture Minister Rachida Dati said in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that no injuries were reported, while stressing that investigations were ongoing. "The Louvre Museum will remain closed today (Sunday) for exceptional reasons," the museum's official account announced.

"An investigation has been launched and a detailed inventory of the stolen items is being drawn up. In addition to their commercial value, these items have an invaluable heritage and historical value," the French Interior Ministry said in a statement.

As Nunez told French media, the robbers, “3 or 4” in number, acted within “7 minutes.” The Paris prosecutor’s office announced that it has launched an investigation into the robbery.
