Views from inside the Louvre, the moment the crowd evacuates in panic and images

Panic broke out among visitors to the Louvre Museum in Paris after a robbery, French Culture Minister Rachida Dati confirmed. No one was injured and police, Dati herself and museum staff arrived at the scene. "Investigations are ongoing," the minister added in a post on the social media platform X. Long queues formed outside the museum, which will remain closed throughout the day.

The thieves entered the museum from the side of the building overlooking the Seine, where renovations are currently underway. They used a freight elevator to go directly to the targeted room in the Apollon Gallery. After breaking windows, two men entered the building, while a third remained outside. They stole nine pieces of jewelry from the collection of Napoleon and the Empress, including a necklace, a brooch and a tiara.

While these images, published on social media last September, show the showcases containing the precious jewels, of invaluable historical and artistic value.

In total, the thieves, who were dressed as workers, stole nine items: a jewelry set, a necklace, earrings, two crowns, and a brooch. Two of the nine stolen jewels were later recovered, including Empress Eugénie's crown, which was found broken.
