The Israeli government has decided to completely suspend the supply of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, without setting a deadline for its resumption. The news was confirmed by several Israeli media outlets on Sunday, following official accusations by Israeli authorities that Hamas has violated the ceasefire agreement.
Under the previous agreement, Israel had pledged to allow 600 trucks of aid per day to enter the Palestinian civilian population. But in recent days, this quota has been significantly reduced, with the excuse that Hamas had not fulfilled its obligations under the agreement – namely, the timely return of the bodies of the murdered Israeli hostages.
Furthermore, Israeli authorities have refused to reopen the Rafah border crossing, which remains the only entry point into Gaza not under direct Israeli control. This border is vital for the entry of aid and the exit of civilians, but remains closed despite repeated requests from the Palestinian authorities and international organizations.
The decision to suspend aid places the Gaza population in an even more dire humanitarian situation, at a time when shortages of food, drinking water, fuel and medicine have become unbearable for civilians. International organizations have warned of the risk of an imminent catastrophe if supplies are not urgently resumed.
