Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has warned that Israel is ready to strike targets in Beirut if Hezbollah does not immediately stop attacks on Israeli cities and civilians.

In a post on the X platform, Netanyahu announced that he spoke with US President Donald Trump and conveyed this clear message.

"If Hezbollah does not stop the attacks, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) will attack targets in Beirut ," his statement said.

Netanyahu added that the Israeli operation in southern Lebanon will continue according to the predetermined plan and that Israel's position remains unchanged: a complete halt to attacks by Hezbollah is a necessary condition for any calm of the situation.

The Lebanese Embassy in Washington said Netanyahu had agreed to a proposal that envisions a mutual cessation of attacks between Israel and Hezbollah.

Attacks between Israel and Hezbollah have continued with varying intensity since October 2023, following the Hamas attack on October 7. Hezbollah, which is backed by Iran, has carried out rocket and drone attacks on northern Israel, forcing the evacuation of thousands of Israelis. In turn, Israel has carried out extensive air and ground operations in southern Lebanon, targeting Hezbollah's military infrastructure.
