Denmark breaks political deadlock, Frederiksen secures third term
Mette Frederiksen

Danish Prime Minister and leader of the Social Democrats, Mette Frederiksen, announced that she has reached an agreement with center-left and left-wing parties to form a coalition government, securing her stay in power at a delicate moment for Denmark.

The agreement paves the way for the formation of a minority government and guarantees Frederiksen a third consecutive term as prime minister.

The development comes at a time when Copenhagen is facing tensions in relations with the United States over the future of Greenland, the autonomous Danish territory that has gained great strategic importance in the Arctic.

The political agreement also ends months of uncertainty following the March parliamentary elections, which produced a highly fragmented parliament. In the elections, a total of 12 parties secured representation in parliament, making it difficult to form a stable governing majority.

Frederiksen described the agreement as an important step in ensuring political stability and addressing the domestic and international challenges facing the country.
