Why were the deputies from North Macedonia stopped at the border?

Criminalistics expert Ervin Karamuço has provided details on the detention of MPs from North Macedonia at the Qafë Thana border crossing, stating that the measure is not directly related to the protests in Albania, but to suspicions long raised by Albanian institutions of extremist activity.

According to Karamuço, the people in question have been under the attention of Albanian authorities and there are suspicions that one of them is financed by countries that he described as "unfriendly" to Albania.

" This is not the first case. These people have been warned time and time again by our institutions about their activities. One of them is suspected of receiving funding from several countries that are not friendly to Albania to activate extremist elements in North Macedonia. These are elements that have come and been part of the protests in Albania. The last two times some of them have been declared 'non grata', and one of them even had an American passport ," Karamuço said on the "Real Story" show.

He emphasized that, according to information available to institutions, the activity of these individuals is linked to networks funded by the Middle East.

" It is not directly related to the protest, but to the ongoing activity of some religious extremist elements in North Macedonia, financed with suspicious money from the Middle East, which is deposited in some associations there. These are people who are considered a real danger and who have long been monitored by Albanian institutions ," he said.

Karamuço also raised concerns about the climate towards Albanians in North Macedonia, citing attacks on Albanian diplomatic representatives.

" While these people come and engage in Albania, they should see that the Albanian language in North Macedonia has been trampled on for a long time and I did not see anyone protesting about this. There is also a spirit of hatred towards Albanian diplomatic representatives. These are issues that should concern us all ," he declared.

The expert also brought up an incident that recently occurred in Skopje as an example.

" A few weeks ago, they tried to enter our ambassador's apartment in Skopje, poisoned his dog and then destroyed the Albanian Embassy car in the middle of Skopje, during an official meeting. Even though the vehicle was carrying the Albanian flag, it was attacked by masked people. These are serious developments and cannot be ignored ," Karamuço stressed.
