Former police chief Shemsi Prençi has made strong accusations regarding the functioning of gambling in Albania and the lack of benefits for the state.
According to Prenç, the country's tax system does not benefit from any income from gambling activities, despite the fact that these activities are still actively ongoing. He emphasized that the situation is known and tolerated in some cities in Albania.
" In some cities in the country, there are casinos that are controlled by criminal groups and guarded by police directors and deputy directors, as the latter receive their salaries ," declared Prençi, underlining the direct links between organized crime and law enforcement structures.
The former police chief described the situation as even more alarming when, according to him, the government and state instruments become part of this mechanism or serve the interests of criminal groups. " The most serious situation is when the government and its instruments become part of or serve criminal groups ," he said in an interview on the "Oponencje" show on News24.
