Senegal's participation in the 2026 World Cup has also marked the end of Sadio Mane's international career. The 34-year-old forward has decided to bid farewell to the national team immediately after the team's journey at the tournament.
Mane made his decision public in a letter published in the French newspaper "Le Quotidien", a few days after Senegal's 3-2 elimination by Belgium. The captain of the "Lions of Teranga" stressed that the time had come to hand over the baton to a new generation of footballers.
" Know that I have sacrificed everything for this flag. I have given my best and have always fought with determination for our nation ," Mane wrote.
During his career with the national team, Sadio Mane played 130 matches and became one of the most important figures in Senegalese football. He was one of the leaders of the team that won two consecutive editions of the Africa Cup of Nations, leaving behind an important legacy and being considered one of the most outstanding strikers in the history of African football.
