At 23 years old, Pedri is one of the leaders of Barcelona's midfield, but the recent decision by Spain coach Luis de la Fuente has caused much discussion in the country.
The Spanish coach decided to leave the Catalan star on the bench for the match against Belgium. Although Pedri has not lived up to the high expectations placed on him, changing such an important element in the midfield, precisely at a delicate moment in the tournament, has opened up numerous debates.
The trio of Pedri-Rodri-Olmo was considered one of Spain's ideal midfields, but now attention has returned to Fabian Ruiz. The PSG midfielder remains one of De La Fuente's most trusted players, who previously considered him almost untouchable in his formation.
However, the midfield chosen against Belgium is not new for Spain. In fact, it is the same formation that was used after Pedro's injury during the European Championship. During that period, Dani Olmo took on more responsibility in organizing the game and subsequently secured a prominent place in the starting lineup.
The decision to leave Pedro out of the lineup has thus brought back the discussion in Spain: should a midfield that has worked be changed, or is De La Fuente looking for a new solution to the crucial challenges?
