The Albanian Football Federation will hold the draw for the 88th edition of the Superior Category on Monday, July 13. The ceremony will take place at the “House of Football”, determining the calendar for the new season of the Albanian football elite.
The 2026-2027 season is scheduled to start on August 22 and end on May 9, 2027. This year, the Superior Category will also consist of 10 teams: Egnatia, Elbasani, Vllaznia, Dinamo Siti, Partizani, Tirana, Vora, Teuta, Laçi and Skënderbeu. The last two teams are automatically relegated from the category.
The main innovation of this season is the change in the championship format. The federation has decided to abolish the "Final Four" system, bringing back a new competition scheme.
The regular season will be played in three phases, with a total of 27 weeks. After their completion, the teams will be divided into two groups.
The first group will include the six teams ranked above, which will play 10 matches against each other, in a home-and-away format, to determine the champion team.
Meanwhile, the last four teams will form the survival group, where they will play nine home-and-away matches to ensure their place in the elite.
The Albanian Football Association (AFH) has also announced that from the 2027-2028 season, the Superior Category will expand to 12 teams.
