Despite the final starting very briskly in the first minutes, regular time in Spain-Argentina ended in a 0-0 draw.
In the 5th minute, Spain had a good scoring opportunity with Lamien Yamal, after an assist from Dani Olmo, but the striker's shot was deflected by Lisandro Martinez and ultimately stopped by goalkeeper Emi Martinez.
A minute later, Argentina's quick counterattack, Messi leaves behind the Spanish defenders, but Unai Simon comes out of his area and clears the danger.
The following minutes were very even for both teams, without any serious danger.
The first shot on goal from Spain would come in the 38th minute, where Mikel Oyarzabal's shot was central and was easily saved by Martinez.
In the 40th minute, the main referee of the match, Slavko Vinčić, gave the first yellow card, to Lisandro Martinez, for a foul on Oyarzabal.
In the 43rd minute, Argentina makes a forced substitution. The injured Lisandro Martinez leaves, replaced by Nicolas Otamendi. The first half ends 0-0.
Spain started the second half strongly, Alex Baena had a good chance in the 46th minute, but his shot was easily stopped by Martinez.
In the 64th minute, Dani Olmo's cross is not properly stopped by Martinez, but only a corner kick for Spain.
In the 67th minute, Ferran Torres heads in after Yamal's perfect pass, but Martinez is careful.
In the 79th minute, another good scoring opportunity for Spain, but Aymeric Laporte's header was saved by Martinez. The final minutes of extra time were truly dramatic.
Initially, Nico Williams had a great chance to score, but his shot was blocked by Martinez. Yamal was free on the other wing. Enzo Fernandez was sent off after receiving his second yellow card for a rough tackle on Pau Cubarsi. In the last minute of extra time, Yamal tried to score from the free kick, Martinez made a great save.
Although Spain dominated the match, the score remained unchanged until the end. Regular time ended 0-0. The final went into 30 minutes of extra time, with Argentina one man down.
