Houthi rebels escalate attacks on Aramco facilities, tensions rise with Saudi

The Houthi movement has escalated attacks on facilities of the Saudi state oil company, Aramco, increasing tensions with Saudi Arabia and bringing one of the most sensitive points of the regional conflict back into focus.

Throughout the week, Houthi officials have warned that they will strike what they describe as the "bread and butter" of the Saudi economy, referring to Aramco's facilities, which constitute the mainstay of the Kingdom's oil production and exports.

In the past, the Houthis have targeted Aramco storage facilities, causing large fires and temporary disruptions to operations. Such attacks have sparked concerns in international energy markets and increased pressure on Saudi authorities.

Analysts say the latest attack is intended to show that the Houthis continue to have the ability to conduct military operations even after being hit by airstrikes. The group's message is that it remains capable of retaliating and striking strategic targets.

The Houthis have previously demonstrated this capacity not only against Saudi Arabia, but also through attacks on targets linked to the United States and Israel during the escalation of regional tensions in the period 2023–2025.

According to statements by the group's representatives, Saudi Arabia had the opportunity to resolve the crisis through negotiations after imposing a blockade on the Houthis. They claim that Riyadh was faced with two alternatives: engage in talks to ease the blockade or enter a new military confrontation.
