India has been engulfed in the past week by massive protests led mainly by young people of Generation Z, who demanded accountability for the ongoing leaks of exam tests, the resignation of the Education Minister, and concrete measures for the affected students.
Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced his resignation on Saturday via the X platform, while on the same day police used tear gas to disperse protesters in New Delhi, just hours before a new round of talks between protestor representatives and federal ministers.
Later, leaders of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), the satirical movement that led the protests, declared that the demonstrations would be called off "in good faith" after the government had accepted all their demands.
"All our demands have been accepted, therefore we request the protesters to withdraw immediately and return home peacefully ," said CJP spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka after the meeting with government representatives.
In addition to the resignation of the Education Minister, the protesters demanded a compensation of 10 million rupees for the families of students who committed suicide after being forced to repeat exams, assurances that protest participants would not be punished, and a public apology from the Delhi Police and the Rapid Action Force for the way they treated the demonstrators.
A federal minister confirmed that the government has accepted all of the protesters' demands and called on organizers to officially end the protests, ending one of the country's largest student movements in recent years.
