Rolando Maran has started his adventure as coach of the Albanian National Team, losing in the two friendlies that the Rossoneri played in June. The Trentino technician, who has managed well-known Serie A teams such as Catania, Chievo and Cagliari, is expected to settle in Tirana soon to start working full-time on the eve of the Nations League matches.
Maran becomes the first coach from the Trentino region to take charge of a national team. In this new challenge, he will have at his side his trusted assistant, Christian Maraner, with whom he has collaborated for years.
In an interview with Italian media, the Albania coach praised the progress made by the Rossoneri in recent years, emphasizing that the team has created strong foundations to aim for even greater goals.
" It is a national team that has done well, because it has qualified twice for the European Championship. Now it has failed to qualify for the World Cup, but this will be our objective in the future. Now I have to focus on the Nations League and the European Championship ," declared Maran.
With these words, the Italian hinted that he intends to continue the work built so far, but also to transform Albania into a team that regularly fights for participation in major international tournaments.
During the interview, Maran also commented on Italy's continued World Cup absence, describing it as a huge disappointment, especially for the younger generation of fans.
" I put myself in the shoes of an 18-year-old today who has never seen Italy in a World Cup. Just when I think about how I experienced those World Cups as a child, it was a dream that every boy wanted to achieve ," he said.
The 63-year-old coach also spoke about football in his hometown, praising the Trento club's project and ambition to climb to Serie B.
" This year I have gone a little less to see Trento, but I have been to the stadium a few times. The enthusiasm of president Mauro Giaça is very valuable for a city that has never been very excited by football. I think that promotion to Serie B is an achievable goal ," concluded Maran.
Rolando Maran's appointment as head coach of the national team came after Silvinho's departure. The Italian now has the task of building a competitive Albania and returning the Rossoneri to the biggest stage of international football, with the dream of a historic qualification for the World Cup.
