Belgian Hugo Bros has announced his departure from the South African national team after the 2026 World Cup, becoming the 14th coach to end his experience with the national team after the tournament.
The 74-year-old coach said the time had come to step down after fulfilling his most important goal as coach of the team. Under his leadership, South Africa advanced past the group stage of a World Cup for the first time in history.
Bros remained in charge of the national team for five years, leading the team to historic success. South Africa's journey to the 2026 World Cup ended in the knockout stage after a narrow 1-0 defeat to Canada.
With the departure of Hugo Bros, the number of coaches who have left the national team benches after the 2026 World Cup has reached 14, a figure that makes this edition of the World Cup special also for the numerous changes in the technical staff.
