Albanian national team coach Silvinjo has signaled that he will wait until his contract expires in July to decide on his future. His statement comes at a time when recent results and public criticism have added to uncertainty about the continuation of his cooperation with the Albanian Football Federation (AFF).
Despite the historic achievement of qualifying for the World Cup play-offs, recent performances have brought disappointment and debate. In this context, the possibility of Silvinho's departure is seen as an increasingly likely scenario.
In the event of the Brazilian's departure, the Albanian Football Association and president Armand Duka will have to act quickly to find a new coach, before the start of the Nations League in September, a competition that could serve as a path towards "EURO 2028".
Historically, the AFF has preferred foreign coaches, usually not of very high profile, for economic and strategic reasons. Selections have often been made through intermediaries or managers, rather than through open competitive processes.
This time too, decision-making is expected to follow the same line.
A figure that is being mentioned more and more often is manager Fali Ramadani, who represents a large number of national team players and recently even Silvinjon himself.
If no renewal agreement is reached, Ramadani could have a key role in proposing new candidates.
Rumored names:
Alessandro Nesta – Former renowned Italian defender and 2006 world champion with the "azurra". As a coach, he has managed several teams in Italy and the USA, but without consolidating at the highest levels.
Luka Goti – Italian coach with experience in Serie A, known for his roles as assistant and then as head coach at several clubs.
