Kremlin 'undermines' Ukraine's accession process: EU should
Peskov

The Kremlin links the Nord Stream allegations to Ukraine's EU accession process. Moscow is demanding that member states take the German investigation into account in discussions on European Union enlargement.

The Kremlin said on Friday that the European Union should assess recent developments in the investigation into the Nord Stream pipeline explosions when considering the prospect of Ukraine joining the bloc.

The reaction came after Germany's Federal Prosecutor's Office filed charges against a former Ukrainian army officer suspected of involvement in the explosions that hit the gas pipeline in September 2022. According to German authorities, he is accused of collaborating in organizing the attack and acting on behalf of Ukrainian state entities.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov described the incident as a terrorist act against critical infrastructure of the European Union. He said the development should be taken into account by member states during discussions on Ukraine's accession to the EU and on expanding cooperation with Kiev.

The explosions that occurred in September 2022 damaged the Nord Stream 1 pipelines, one of the main Russian gas supply corridors to Europe, as well as a Nord Stream 2 line, which at that time had not yet entered into operation.
