Bayern Munich begin the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in Cincinnati on Sunday, as they face Auckland City in the opening match of Group C (18:00 CEST).
"We want to go into the tournament full of confidence," coach Vincent Kompany said during preparations.
The majority of Bayern's squad has been in the US since Tuesday evening, with the remaining players arriving by Friday after completing international commitments. The team has been working hard at their base camp in Orlando to prepare for their opening match.
"Now we have the feeling that things are finally starting, that we are excited about the game and what this tournament can bring," Kompany said. He added that at the end of the day, you need results.
"But our feeling is that we have a good mix of fun from being together and concentration. We had good intensity from the start," the Belgian continued.
Bayern's opponents in Group C are Boca Juniors, Benfica and Auckland. "We always have the highest targets at Bayern. But we have to win the first round first, which is the group," insisted the 39-year-old. That means a win is absolutely essential in Sunday's first match. "We want to approach the game seriously and do our job," Kompany concluded.
Auckland is the most successful team in New Zealand football history and also boasts a record 13 Oceania Champions League titles.
The Navy Blues, who are a semi-professional team full of players who have jobs other than playing, come into the tournament with a good momentum of four consecutive home game wins.
The North Island team have scored 15 goals in that series, led by striker Myer Bevan. "It's difficult to judge how the levels compare, but that doesn't change the way we prepare. We've done our thing there," Kompany said.
"They are well organised. We are playing against a team that will probably sit back and be compact, waiting for a moment to come in their favour. The important thing is to have respect and concentration," he added.
