Inter Miami CF's Lionel Messi came close to scoring in the dying moments, while Al Ahly's Trézéguet missed a penalty in the first half.
The opening match of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup ended in a goalless draw at Miami's Hard Rock Stadium.
Although neither side had the chance to celebrate a goal, which would have been the first in the 32-team Club World Cup, both teams put in an excellent performance, with both teams having several important scoring chances throughout the 90 minutes.
Both teams took a point from the encounter and are looking forward to their other opponents in Group A, Portugal's FC Porto and Brazil's Palmeiras, hoping to draw more attention to their clubs and leagues as they continue their race towards the knockout stages.
Despite having stars like Messi, Luis Suárez and Sergio Busquets available for the opening match, coach Javier Mascherano's team simply didn't have the depth on paper to compete with the best teams in the world.
However, they managed to come head-to-head with the 45-time Egyptian champions, creating three crucial chances and taking five shots on goal, with Messi almost beating goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy at several of the set pieces in the second half.
Aside from Messi, Suárez couldn't find his balance in the game and had a bad night, which has been more common for him this season, after scoring 20 goals in his first season with Miami.

The next incredible opportunity came late in the game from substitute and MLS player Fafa Picault, who had a header after Messi's cross in the dying moments.
In the backcourt, Miami did a lot of things right, and Mascherano was smart in his substitutions, taking off Tomás Aviles after the latter received a yellow card and appeared to be under heavy scrutiny from the referee.
However, this point will be disappointing for Miami, who will leave the match thinking they had a chance to get a full three points. At the same time, a similar feeling may be felt by Al Ahly, who will surely regret the missed opportunities and the chance to get two additional points.
"I'm happy with the performance. Much better in the second half," Mascherano told DAZN.
"In the first half, we lost some balls and in some transitions were very dangerous. But in the second half, we played in the other half, we controlled the game and we had chances to win the game," he said.
