Vjosa Osmani again at the head of state? Abdixhiku meets with the former

LDK leader Lumir Abdixhiku has held a meeting with former president Vjosa Osmani, as efforts to reach an agreement on the election of the new president still remain unclear.

The meeting comes in the wake of recent political developments, including the Vetëvendosje Movement's proposal for three possible consensual names for the post of president, addressed to PDK and LDK. According to sources close to LDK, only Abdixhiku participated in the meeting from this entity.

In parallel with this move, Abdixhiku has publicly addressed Prime Minister Albin Kurti, seeking clarification on the direction of political negotiations and the possibility of an agreement between the parties.

In a Facebook post, he raised a direct dilemma about the government's strategy: whether to cooperate with the LDK or secure 90 votes in cooperation with the PDK. Abdixhiku emphasized that any agreement requires direct communication and not distant declarations.

"Honorable Prime Minister Kurti, Since we are communicating remotely, please decide whether you want a political agreement with the LDK, or do you want 90 votes with the PDK as well. If it is the latter and you cannot do without them, then we cannot help you. When you come to an agreement, we will deal with it. But, if you want a political agreement with the LDK, then talk to us", said the LDK.

In the same reaction, he made it clear that the LDK intends to take responsibility for proposing a presidential candidate, not excluding the name of Vjosa Osmani if the necessary votes are secured in the Assembly.

"We propose the president with full responsibility. We can also propose Vjosa Osmani, if you guarantee us 66 votes for her," Abdixhiku writes.

The political developments come as the constitutional deadline for electing a president is approaching. According to the Constitutional Court, the Kosovo Assembly must elect a new head of state by April 28.
