Hafiz Egzon Ibrahimi, a renowned Quran reciter from Kosovo, was denied entry into the United States upon arrival at Boston airport. According to a report by “Ma Shqip,” the 24-year-old was detained by US immigration authorities and then returned on the first flight back to the country he had traveled to.
Referring to immigration sources in Boston, it is reported that Ibrahimi, although he had a valid American visa issued by the US Embassy in Pristina, was questioned by border officers and then refused entry to American territory. The official reason for the decision has not been made public so far.
The incident was also confirmed by the Al Huda Community Center, the Islamic center in Chelsea, Boston that had organized the planned activities with his participation. In a response published on social media, the center initially announced that “Qari Egzon was not allowed to enter the US, despite having a valid visa,” adding that the US tour had been canceled for the time being.
The first post was published around 12:30 p.m. local time in the U.S. The response was later edited and the wording changed. In the second version, the center avoided direct reference to the denial of entry and announced only that the tour had been postponed until further notice while work was underway to reschedule the dates of the activities.
Al Huda Society, the organization that runs the Chelsea Islamic Center, has been operating for more than 20 years as a mosque, religious school, and activity center for the Muslim community in Massachusetts. It hosts religious lectures, Quran lessons, and youth programs.
According to a report by "Ma Shqip", US authorities have not made any public comment on the case. US immigration law gives border officers the authority to refuse entry to a person even if they have a valid visa.
The report also mentions that after Donald Trump's return to the White House, checks at American airports and border crossings have been significantly tightened, although no concrete connection between this policy and Ibrahim's case has been confirmed.
Hafiz Egzon Ibrahimi had planned a tour with several religious activities in Islamic centers in the US. After being detained at Boston airport, the entire program was canceled. He himself has not yet reacted publicly to the incident.
The 24-year-old from Kosovo has become known on social media and in Islamic religious circles for his Quran recitations and participation in international competitions. He also performs ilahi in Albanian with musical elements, which has sparked debate in various religious circles. He recently participated in an event in Turkey attended by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
