Elections in Kosovo

The process of registering voters outside Kosovo for the early elections for the Assembly of Kosovo has been concluded, following an application period that began on May 6.

According to preliminary data published by the Central Election Commission, a total of 142,803 registration requests were received through the electronic platform during this period. So far, 109,696 applications have been approved, 7,325 have been rejected, while another 25,702 remain under review.

Data shows that the most preferred form of voting by the diaspora continues to be voting by mail.

"Out of the total number of approved applications, 81,901 citizens have registered to receive the ballot package at their postal addresses outside Kosovo. Meanwhile, 2,855 voters have chosen to have their ballot packages sent to the CEC mailbox in Kosovo, while 24,940 citizens have registered to vote physically at diplomatic missions," CEC spokesperson Valmir Elezi told RTKlive.

In accordance with the Law on General Elections, the process of voting abroad will take place before election day in Kosovo. Voting by mail is expected to begin on May 25 and will last until June 6, while physical voting at embassies and consulates will take place on June 6.

To organize postal voting, mailboxes have been put into operation in 23 different countries, including Kosovo. The addresses of these boxes are expected to be published this week by the Central Election Commission.

Regarding physical voting in diplomatic missions, the CEC will review the final list of embassies and consulates where the electoral process will be organized. Initially, it was planned that voting would be held in 48 diplomatic missions with a total of 70 polling stations, including 33 embassies and 15 consulates.

However, according to the Electoral Regulation on Registration and Voting Outside Kosovo, in cases where the number of voters registered in a diplomatic mission is less than 50, physical voting is not organized. In these cases, voters automatically move to the postal voting category and will be notified by the CEC.
