Fredi Beleri, a controversial figure who is today an MEP as part of the European People's Party group, representing New Democracy of Greece, appears to have betrayed Sali Berisha, the leader of the Democratic Party, whom he supported during the May 11 elections.
In an interview with "Albania Live", Beleri claimed that Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis expected Rama's victory in the elections.
He also criticized the opposition for this deep defeat, stating that everyone must bear responsibility, first and foremost Berisha.
"On Sunday they vote for the Socialist Party, on Monday they ask for a visa to Europe. The same people. It is not normal, the opposition must do everything. Even the resignation of the mayor to raise awareness among the people. To change the situation. If the result is not achieved, then everyone must bear responsibility, first the mayor.
I am on the EU-Albania parliamentary committee. Every time our committee holds a meeting, I will be present. If Rama is there, then unfortunately I will have him in front of me. They cannot complain about Rama because they voted for him themselves.
"Mitsotakis expected Rama to win. He says we don't need anyone. Mitsotakis is a lover of Albania and one of the prime ministers whose voice is heard in Europe. I hope that relations will normalize. If Albanians are satisfied with the result, with new candidates defeating former ministers in the elections, then Mitsotakis is satisfied," Beleri said.
During the electoral campaign, Fredi Beleri appeared at several meetings organized by the DP and its coalition 'Albanian Alliance of Great Albania', especially rallies in Greece. Beleri also supported the DP's alliance with Vangjel Dule's PBDNJ, which was running in the Vlora district, as part of the closed list.
