Today, the famous Albanian singer Ermal Meta celebrates his birthday. The famous Italian "Corriere" has dedicated a profile article to him, from his arrival in Bari to the famous artist who touched the "Ariston" stage:
Born in Fier on April 20, 1981 , he moved to Bari, Italy at the age of 13 with his mother, brother, and sister.
In 2023, in an emotional account on the show “Le Iene” , Meta told the powerful story of his family’s emigration. He revealed that his mother had managed to leave Albania with the help of two unknown people: a man who provided her with a fake passport and an officer who, although he understood the forgery, decided to stamp the document, moved by the situation of a mother who only wanted to save her children. “Two acts of kindness saved four lives. Among them was my life. Be kind, you can save someone,” the artist had said.
Where did he work before he became famous?
Raised among classical music, as his mother was a violinist, Meta began playing music at the age of 16. In Italy, he was introduced to international music and Albanian songs, and was later influenced by the Italian artists he listened to in his early years in Bari.
He began his career with several musical groups, before becoming part of Ameba 4 , with whom he participated in the “Sanremo 2006” in the youth category. Before dedicating himself to music, he worked as a dishwasher, a newspaper distributor at traffic lights, and a call center operator.
Later, Meta created the group La Fame di Camilla , with which he released several albums and participated in “Sanremo 2010” . After the group's disbandment, he began his career as a songwriter, writing for well-known artists such as Emma, Marco Mengoni, Francesco Renga and others.
On the stage of "Ariston"
In 2017 , he returned to Sanremo with the song "Vietato morire" , coming in third, while in 2018 he won the festival together with Fabrizio Moro with the song "Non mi avete fatto niente" . With the same song they represented Italy in the Eurovision Song Contest 2018.
The absent father in his life
Meta has also often spoken about his difficult relationship with his father, whom he has described as an absent and violent figure. These experiences have been reflected in his songs such as "Lettera a mio padre" (Letter to my father) and "Vietato morire" (Forbidden to die) , which deal with violence and family wounds.
Books
In 2022 he published his first novel "Domani e per sempre", (Tomorrow and Forever) while in 2025 he brought out his second book "Le camelie invernali", (The Winter Camellias), expanding his activity in literature.
Private life
Regarding his romantic life, Ermal Meta has always been quite reserved, keeping this part of his life away from public attention.
He had a long relationship with radio presenter Silvia Notargiacomo , and later got involved with Chiara Sturdà , with whom he became the father of a daughter named Fortuna in 2024 .
Their family is expected to be joined by two other Albanian girls, whom the couple had wanted to adopt, but it was not possible because they are not married. According to the plan, the girls will join the family in June, when both have reached the age of majority.
In a story for "Corriere della Sera" , Meta said that he met the girls several years ago during a charity campaign for an orphanage in Albania. He described the strong emotional impact that their stories have left, remembering that often older children in institutions go unnoticed.
"When they told us 'no one loves us', my heart broke into a thousand pieces," the singer confessed, emphasizing that those words have remained deeply in his memory. /Adapted from Pamfleti
