Arrested in Saranda, who is Ervis Cukali involved in the disappearance of

A movie-like action was carried out by the Saranda police last night, resulting in the arrest of three young men, Endri Doku, Imer Gega and Ervis Cukali.

The young men were stopped while traveling in a luxury Porsche Panamera, while during the stop, Endri Doku jumped into the sea to escape arrest and to throw away the firearm he was carrying.

While the first two names result without criminal records, Ervis Cukali is a name known to the police.

The latter was declared wanted in 2023 as an accomplice of Albi Meçini, who was arrested as a suspect in the sensational kidnapping of Leonard Theodhori and Fatmir Sulovari in Saranda. According to the police, Cukali was suspected of committing murders on behalf of a criminal group.

The 27-year-old was wanted on charges of "Providing conditions and material means to commit murder" and "Unauthorized possession and production of weapons of war."

Who are the missing?

Leonard Theodhori, 46 years old, known as “Koçole”. Convicted several times. Suspected of participating in the Qafë-Gjashtë Massacre in 1997, where police officer Gjergj Mehmeti was killed. In 2003, he was present in the vehicle driven by Andrea Gjini before the latter killed businessman Jaho Bajo. Arrested that same year for “failure to report a crime” in connection with another incident committed by Gjini. Arrested later for “theft” and “fraud”. Drug user and suspected of being involved in drug trafficking.

Fatmir Sulovari alias Fatmir Krasniqi, 46 years old. Previously convicted of "unlicensed possession of a weapon" and "intentional minor injury". Arrested in April 2022 in Lushnja, after a quantity of cannabis sativa divided into doses ready for sale was found in his "BMW" X5 vehicle.

How was the disappearance of Theodhori and Sulovari in Saranda solved?

The investigations pursued into the disappearance of Leonard Theodhori and Fatmir Sulovari in Saranda led to the prevention of a criminal event in Fier, for which over 21 kilograms of explosives mounted for remote detonation had been prepared.

This quantity of explosives was found on citizen Albi Mecini, with a previous criminal record, while he was driving on the Mbrostar-Fier road. They were placed next to his car, in two bags fitted with mobile phones and would be detonated remotely via a mechanism.

After his arrest, during a search of the area, the Police also found this car, inside which were 3 cans of gasoline, which was suspected of being used to flee the scene and destroy evidence.

Arafat Manërkolli, 27, and Ervis Cukali, 25, were also wanted for this incident, and are accused of having, in collaboration with Albi Mecin, provided the conditions for a murder in Fier. The police were reserved in providing details about the target of the assassination.

The Fier and Vlora police stumbled upon the assassination plot while investigating Albi Mecini as one of the participants in the kidnapping and disappearance of Leonard Theodhor and Fatmir Sulovari in the city of Saranda in April of this year.

In this crime, he is suspected of collaborating with citizen Sebastjan Lataj, 25 years old. For both of them, the Saranda court has issued security measures, for the citizen for the criminal offense of "Kidnapping or holding a person hostage".

The police operation is ongoing and it is expected that the police will provide further details regarding how the two people disappeared in Saranda and the causes of the incident. The investigations are also focused on finding the bodies of the two missing people.
